"Open-source is free" is one of the most expensive misconceptions in enterprise AI planning. So is "proprietary is simpler." Neither statement survives contact with a real total-cost-of-ownership analysis, and for mission-critical infrastructure — systems where downtime, data exposure, or a bad output has real consequences — getting this
